My
name is Renada Simpson-Tucker, welcome to my page. I was
born in Waco, Tx, but raised in Temple. I took an
interest in hair when I was in about the 7th grade. But
before that, I knew for some reason that I would be good
with my hands. I wanted to play the piano, but I was
never able to take lessons. But oh how I wanted to be a
pianist! One day in study hall my friend and I were
bored, so I began playing in her hair. I told her that I
wanted to do a french roll, but I had no stuffing. I was
always creative, so I went to the restroom and got some
paper towels. I crumbled it up, made it soft, and shaped
it the way I wanted and styled a french roll. The first
in my life. After class, students were complimenting her
and that made me feel good. Styling hair became more of
a hobby than anything. But I eventually started to
realize, "I'm pretty good at this." I remember walking
to people's house just to do their hair.
I joined Cosmetology in the 11th grade at Temple High
School, where Judy Wilkerson was my instructor. Two
years later, I completed my hours and graduated High
School. I went to state boards a couple of months later.
I was more nervous than a hooker on 1st Sunday! I didn't
pass the first time on my written exam, but I went right
back and passed.

I started in my first salon October 1999. I've worked in
two other salons since then, but by the grace of God,
October of 2009, I became the owner of Testimonial Hair
Designs!
People sometimes ask, "Is it a church salon?" or "Why
did you name your shop that?" I let them know, no it's
not a "church" salon. You see I've been through some
things in my personal and business life, but God always
held me through. He blessed me with this great talent
that all hairstylist don't have, and I'm grateful. He
has blessed me from the beginning of my career with
incredible clientele, and I'm appreciative. And as a
single 28 year old black woman, He told me, "It's your
time," and blessed me with the means to open my own
salon. This shop is my testimony. |
